PROJECT SUPERVISOR: Doug Burton
ENGINEER: Crosier Kilgour Engineers, Winnipeg, MB
PROJECT NOTES: The project consisted of the exterior recaulking of the Fountain House, a condomium complex, in Winnipeg as part of the regular maintenance of the building. The existing caulking had aged and Sonneborn Sonolastic 150 was applied after cutting out the old sealant. This involved the window perimeters and the masonry expansion control joints.
Sonolastic 150 was chosen by the engineer due to its longer life expectancy and greater movement capability based upon its proven track record and use on previous, high profile projects in Winnipeg such as the Richardson Building, the 33 story office tower (the tallest structure in Winnipeg) which was recaulked with Sonolastic 150 a few years ago.
The propaks were used due to their economical basis compared to tubes, less packaging waste generated and more sealant could be applied per day due to less reloading of the applicator gun. Sonolastic® 150 is a premium, very low-modulus, high-movement, nonsag, fast-curing, ready-to-use, silyl-terminated polyether sealant. It combines the best qualities of organic and silicone sealants. It accommodates extreme joint movement (+100 to –50%) to keep moving joints weather tight.
