PROJECT NOTES: Lakehead University’s construction of the new ATAC (Advanced Technology & Academic Centre) Building is part of their Strategic Plan. The following is taken from President Fred Gilbert’s message to potential partners in introducing the construction project.
“Lakehead University is ambitiously charting its future to fulfill the objectives of a Strategic Plan that will position it as an important player in the economic and social development of northern and rural Canada. Geographically located mid-way between the east and west coasts and serving as a distribution point for Northwestern Ontario, the University and the City of Thunder Bay represent a strategic connection point for commerce, technological linkage and educational opportunity.
Building on 36 years of contribution to Northwestern Ontario, Lakehead University is reaching out to partner with national and international interests and is poised to be a major leader in technology and education in the information age. Part of our strategy is construction of the Advanced Technology and Academic Centre. This building will become a focus for the campus and will become our central communications mode providing enhanced connectivity to the world. Electronic linkages to students of all ages will be provided by “smart classrooms,” enhanced distance education facilities, computer teaching and research labs, GIS labs, and computing capability equivalent to any major university in the Country.”
Brock White supplied numerous materials on this project including the shoring for a structural/ architectural beam that runs across the 5th floor facade of this new building. This beam was 1500mm deep x 55 meters in length. Rental materials supplied consisted of 3 trailer loads of Patent Construction Systems 20K Shoring Frames and accessories as well as scaffolding access equipment for construction workers. Brock White is proud to have been chosen to be a supplier of materials to this great project.
