Congratulations to the 2011 Alberta Masonry Design Award Winners

The Alberta Masonry Design Awards are held every four years and acknowledge excellence,
innovation and design in the use of masonry in a variety of categories.

The 2011 gala was held Friday, April 8 at the BMO Centre with over 350 people in attendance.
Awards were presented to the Owner, Architect, General Contractor, Masonry Contractor and
Engineer. Brock White was proud to be a supplier on some of the projects used on these winning projects.

Judges comments: The elegant and spare use of stone stood out in this project which literally
showcases masonry in a glass box. The pavilion fits in its modern urban setting and is a nod to the legacy of historic stonework in downtown Calgary.

Judges comments: The exterior masonry materials and features tie the school to the natural beauty of the remote surroundings, its permanence, and to the Stoney First Nation peoples. Like education itself, schools must last a lifetime. Loadbearing interior and exterior masonry walls provide the needed shelter, strength and durability. The Ta-Otha Community School is a fine example of total masonry construction.

Built in masonry to ensure strength, provide protection, and to prove dominance ...and to link the present with the past.. .it towers as a memorial, a gateway, and a vantage point to overlook one of Alberta's most breathtaking and tranquil landscapes.
